They Lived: Ear Candy says screw you to They Live and hello to Mash Hall
I always hate writing obituaries for my favorite groups but unfortunately as the headline implies, Seattle's They Live is no more. But that's okay because from the ashes of They Live rises Mash Hall (a.k.a. They Live under a different name).
You see, late Wedensday word leaked out via Twitter that They Live had changed their name to Mash Hall. Apparently They Live is a trademarked name that is already being used by some crappy horror-punk group based in Minneapolis so Gatsby and Bruce Illlest had to change their name to Mash Hall after the successful clothing line. It's kind of funny because They Live was named after a cult horror movie from the 1980s. The group loosely based its frst EP, The Dro Bots Saga, off the film and I'm pretty sure They Live the movie title is also trademarked.
Those keeping close tabs on all things They Live know this is the second name change for the group. They started their career using the moniker The DroBots. Also on the name front, along with being a successful clothing line and sponsor of world-class bboys Mash Hall was to be the name of Bruce Illest and Ronnie Voice (who pops up on They Live's They La Soul album) former group.
So it is with high enthusiasm that Ear Candy says screw you to They Live and welcome to the fold to Mash Hall. Look for Mash Hall's first release, They La Soul, which was the last album released by Seattle's They Live, to get a physical release soon.
To celebrate the demise of They Live go get yourself They La Soul for free while you can becasue you know you're probably going to have to pay for it soon since it's getting a proper release . After all it was Ear Candy's number two local album of 2009 so you know it's good, right?
