PHOTOS: Jeff Ament says hi as Deranged Diction reunites for first show in 25 years

May 17, 2009 by Steven Friederich

Yes,that's Jeff Ament. And the Pearl Jam rocker is flipping off everyone who doesn't know who Deranged Diction are. Okay, seriously, he's just posing for a photo from a fan who wanted to snap a picture with her cell phone camera. But Jeff was in town with one of his early bands, Deranged Diction -- a pure punk band that channels way more Black Flag than Pearl Jam. Travis has the low down on the band from his earlier post, including a history of the band in Jeff's own words.

Here are some photos (all of my photos are up at www.stevenfriederich.com)

Set list: (Note that next to some of the songs is the chord the song should play in. And the stapled packet of papers next to the set list are lyrics to the song "What Can We Do," plus other songs, I'm sure.)

Openers included Suck Machine, which had familiar faces from the Presidents of the USA and other bands, and Police Teeth -- who kept lying about what the name of their band really was after each song so I'm 75 percent sure their rname is Police Teeth. I noticed most of the folks from the other bands crowded close to the stage to watch Deranged Diction as the evening progressed. The Crocodile's Twitter account reported fellow Pearl Jam musicians Stone Gossard and Eddie Vedder were "in the house," but wherever they were, they didn't go up on stage.

All of this music lore and history was $10. Ten bucks! Awesome price for great punk rock.
